what we offer…

Soft tissue therapy

Can be defined as the ‘management, manipulation, and rehabilitation of the body’s soft tissues ‘ e.g our muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia. It is a very specialised skill and your therapist will use their excellent palpation skills to identify sites or areas for specific attention. They can then tailor specific treatment plan, unique to you as an individual combining other evidence based techniques.

Soft tissue abnormalities may be caused by an array of factors, including a faulty posture, adverse biomechanics, tension, repetitive strain a sporting trauma, fatigue or simply every day activities. We at Ocean Therapy believe you DO NOT have to be a sportsperson to receive a from a treatment absolutely everyone (providing there are no contraindications preventing treatment) can benefit.

Some of the benefits of a Soft tissue treatment: May help to reduce pain, improve your flexibility and range of movement, remodel scar tissue, assist in mental and physical preparation for any sport, and will have a generally positive effect on your wellbeing.

Orthopeadic Musculoskeletal Acupuncture

Samantha has been practising Acupuncture at Ocean Therapy for the last 6 years. It is a highly respected ancient Chinese medical practise which can help with a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal issues. The Chinese believe that we are made up of vital energy called ‘Qi’, and when this flow is blocked or impaired, it is believed that physical illness will follow. They believe that our internal organs are linked to various meridians or channels mapped along our body, for example the stomach meridian can be treated to help with shoulder issues. Samantha believes that the treatment combination of Acupuncture, Dry needling, the use of electro acupuncture and advanced soft tissue intervention is a unique practise not seen locally. Samantha uses her expertise and over 20 years of soft tissue techniques with both the Traditional Chinese Acupuncture approach alongside more westernised needle practise, using precise myofascial ‘trigger points’ and ‘motor points’ to normalise any soft tissue dysfunction, which may be contributing to your pain. She may well also use Electroacupuncture for pain relief, help reduce inflammation in your body and for muscle stimulation which help to recruit muscles that may have been inhibited, helping to restore your mobility. It is a good addition or alternative to traditional acupuncture, with these combined physical benefits ,this therapeutic treatment ia also meant to help you feel relaxed and pain free. The introduction of other modalities such as cupping and ‘Moxa’ may also be used to compliment your treatment.

Acupuncture is all encompassing it has many effects on the body, it will help restore normal blood flow by encouraging circulation to the area that hurts, enabling the body to help heal itself. It will help reduce muscle pain, tension, lengthen tight short muscles, reduce scar tissue, help to reduce nerve pain and can induce a state of general relaxation and wellbeing.

Examples of problems treated with acupuncture at Ocean therapy: Back Pain, neck and shoulder pain, General joint pain , Arthritis , Hand and wrist pain, Achilles Injury's, headaches, muscle strains, & any general musculoskeletal tension, plus many more conditions not even mentioned here. It may well be decided after some discussion that you may benefit from a series of consecutive treatments, to look at more specific problems, a block of between 4- 6 weekly sessions may be advised depending on your condition.

Please note Samantha will discuss your complete medical history and any potential contraindications that may well prevent you from having Elecroacupuncture, or acupuncture prior to composing a specific treatment plan.

Rehabilitation

Sports injury Rehabilitation is a multi-disciplinary approach to the prevention, evaluation and treatment of injuries. The initial stages of treatment for most injuries is to reduce any inflammation, therefore reducing your pain and any swelling that you may have. We will use certain modalities to do this which will promote healing and encourage functional movement. Once any of these symptoms of injury have passed a progressive reconditioning treatment plan can commence.

At your initial appointment with Boris, he will take a through clinical medical history, assess your posture, functional movement  patterns and any musculoskeletal injuries that you may be presenting with. With this clinical reasoning, he will design a treatment plan involving a combination of soft tissue techniques, strengthening exercises, and home advice which may include exercises to improve overall posture, flexibility, and mobility helping you reach your treatment goals, reduce any pain that you may be in and help you to remain as functional as possible in your every day life.
